JANUARY 27, 2025 – THE FED MEETS THIS WEEK

The Federal Reserve meets this week on Tuesday and Wednesday where no action is expected on interest rates despite President Trump’s call to lower interest rates immediately. The President wants to boost the economy, even though it is outperforming its peers around the world.

It was announced last week that existing home sales in 2024 fell to the lowest level in almost 30 years with prices reaching all-time highs. High interest rates are having an effect as homeowners are hesitant to move and lose the low-interest rate mortgages they currently have to refinance at the going rates. The Fed indicated in December there would be likely be two rate cuts in 2025, they want to be slow and cautious. However, Fed Governor Christopher Waller said last week the central bank may lower rates multiple times this year if inflation is seen to be easing
